Ubud sits in the green hills of Gianyar, between river gorges, an hour or more inland from the airport. It has been the island’s centre for painting and dance for a century: the palace and the art market at its crossroads, museums on its edges, dance in the evenings and rice fields at the end of every lane.
Sights
The Ubud Palace and the art market, the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, ARMA and the Museum Puri Lukisan, the Campuhan Ridge Walk, Goa Gajah, Tirta Empul and the terraces at Tegallalang.
