ULTIMATE Bali Island Guide is an independent guide for visitors to Bali, Indonesia. We publish 14 curated lists: restaurants, cafés, bars, hotels, sights, arts & culture, nature & beaches, walks, shopping, health, property, developments, drivers & boats and getting around. We cover Ubud, Seminyak and Petitenget, Canggu and Berawa, Uluwatu and the Bukit, Jimbaran, Nusa Dua and Sanur, with day trips to the Nusa islands, East Bali, the highlands around Bedugul and Jatiluwih, Mount Batur and Kintamani, and North and West Bali.

Our editor

How we choose

Every place in our lists has been checked against its own website or an official source such as UNESCO, Indonesia’s immigration service (evisa.imigrasi.go.id), the Bali provincial government and its Love Bali levy site, InJourney Airports, the national botanic gardens (BRIN) or the land ministry ATR/BPN. Indonesia has no MICHELIN guide, so our restaurants are our own selection. We use no ratings, and we leave out anything we can’t confirm.

Before you go

Opening hours, temple ceremonies, entry rules and boat timetables change often, and on Nyepi the whole island closes for a day. Please check directly with each place, and with official sources, before you travel. Prices are in Indonesian rupiah (IDR).
